Viceroy Indian Cuisine
Upscale Indian on Jefferson with biryanis sealed under pastry.

Local team review · April 2025
The lamb biryani arrived sealed under a dome of golden pastry that we cracked open at the table, releasing a cloud of saffron-scented steam that drew attention from neighboring diners. Beneath it, long-grain basmati rice, dyed pale yellow with saffron and studded with cashews and raisins, cradled tender pieces of slow-braised lamb. This is the kind of Indian restaurant downtown Naperville has been waiting for: polished enough for a proper dinner out, with a kitchen that treats each dish as a composed plate rather than a steam-table afterthought. The butter chicken, glossy with tomato-cream makhani sauce, had a depth that suggested the gravy had been simmered for hours. The tandoori lamb chops, charred at the edges and pink at the center, arrived on a sizzling plate with enough drama to make the table next to us order the same. Viceroy opened on Jefferson Avenue in 2025 and immediately elevated the Indian dining options downtown.
Insider Tip
Crack the sealed pastry biryani tableside for the saffron steam moment — never open it in a to-go container.
