Velvet Taco

The Spicy Tikka Chicken taco arrived in a pressed flour tortilla, the chicken marinated in a tikka masala spice blend and topped with a cooling raita, pickled red onion, and cilantro. It was Indian street food in a Mexican format, and it worked beautifully. Velvet Taco's entire concept rests on this kind of global mash-up: Korean fried rice tacos with pulled pork, chicken-and-waffle tacos with maple syrup, rotisserie chicken with elote cream. Each week brings a new WTF (Weekly Taco Feature) that rotates through cuisines and ingredients you would never expect inside a tortilla. The Block 59 location, Naperville's newest dining district on Route 59, gives Velvet Taco a prime spot among Shake Shack, Yard House, and The Cheesecake Factory. Late-night hours running until midnight on weekends make it one of the few post-dinner options in the area. The queso, loaded with chorizo and served bubbling, is the non-negotiable appetizer.
