The limoncello mascarpone cake was the dish that lingered in memory long after the check arrived — light, citrusy, and impossibly airy, it was the perfect coda to a meal that never felt heavy despite its richness. The rigatoni Bolognese, with a slow-simmered beef and pork ragu that clung to every ridge of the pasta, is the kind of dish that makes you cancel your diet without a second thought. The Route 59 patio, once you're settled in with a negroni, is surprisingly pleasant and far more inviting than its strip-mall address suggests.
About the Restaurant
VAI's manages to feel both celebratory and comfortable, the kind of place where you can order a $50 veal chop one night and split a pizza with the kids the next. The menu draws from Italian-American traditions but adds modern flourishes: think burrata with prosciutto and truffle honey, or pork osso buco with saffron risotto. The cocktail program is stronger than most Italian restaurants bother with, and the outdoor patio along Route 59 is surprisingly pleasant once you're settled in.
