Naperville Taqueria

Tucked inside a grocery store on 75th Street, Naperville Taqueria is the kind of place you drive past a dozen times before someone tells you the al pastor tacos here are the real thing. And they are: spit-roasted pork shaved to order, piled onto doubled corn tortillas with a scatter of raw onion, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime that ties it all together. The carne asada, charred and chopped on a flat-top, had a minerality and chew that told us this was real skirt steak, not pre-marinated strips from a bag. At these prices, three tacos, a burrito, and two aguas frescas came to under twenty dollars, which borders on absurd for this quality. The horchata, creamy with cinnamon and not cloyingly sweet, was the best we have had in the western suburbs. This is halal-certified Mexican street food executed with pride and zero pretension.
