Lotus Banh Mi

The classic banh mi arrived with a crunch that echoed through the dining room when we bit down: a toasted French baguette so crisp on the outside and pillowy within that we paused to appreciate the bread before registering the filling. Inside, layers of house-roasted pork, pate, house mayo, pickled daikon and carrot, cucumber, jalapeno, and a bouquet of cilantro created that sweet-savory-tangy-spicy harmony that defines a proper Vietnamese sandwich. The pho, available in small and large, delivered a broth that was clear yet deeply beefy, the kind that requires hours of low simmering to achieve its depth. Lotus Banh Mi opened on Washington Street in late 2024 and filled a gap downtown Naperville did not know it had: fast, fresh Vietnamese food made from scratch daily, with meats free of additives and sauces prepared in-house.
