The spiked espresso martini shake blindsided me. Cold brew, vodka, and Kahlua blended into something that tastes like a milkshake but hits like a cocktail twenty minutes later — dangerous in the best way. But the genuine surprise was the cheeseburger: a proper diner-style patty with a sear, melted cheese, and a soft bun that had no business being this good at a place famous for neon signs and cotton candy. Bring a date who doesn't take themselves too seriously, or bring kids who want to feel like they've stepped inside a video game. Either way, you'll leave smiling.
About the Restaurant
JoJo's ShakeBAR is a fever dream of 80s and 90s nostalgia, neon signs, vintage arcade games, and milkshakes so elaborately garnished they arrive with an entire slice of cake balanced on top. The burgers and comfort food are better than they need to be given the Instagram-bait shakes are clearly the draw, and the downtown Naperville location near the Riverwalk catches foot traffic from every age group. Kids love the spectacle, teens love the aesthetic, and adults love the spiked shakes. It's the rare restaurant that's as fun to eat at as it is to photograph.
