The Ikkai Regular landed on our table like a master class in restraint: eight pristine pieces of nigiri flanked by a tuna roll, each cut revealing fish so fresh the grain practically glistened under the counter lights. The sushi rice, warm and subtly seasoned, told us everything we needed to know about the kitchen's priorities. We followed with the 109 Roll, a house creation topped with torched salmon that delivered a smoky sweetness most downtown sushi spots only approximate. What separates IKKAI from the pack is its dual personality: a focused omakase experience for purists sitting alongside an all-you-can-eat option that never sacrifices quality for volume. The ramen program rounds out the menu with a rich tonkotsu that could anchor its own restaurant. Tight seating means reservations are essential, but the intimacy works in the restaurant's favor.
