Hoshi Sushi has quietly built a following in south Naperville with a focused menu that prioritizes fish quality over spectacle. The Tequila Roll stands out as a house signature, a creative combination that balances spice and freshness in a way that justifies its cult status among regulars. The Kappa Roll, priced at just five dollars, serves as a reliable gauge of any sushi restaurant: the rice was properly seasoned, the cucumber cut clean, and the nori still had snap. We moved to the Godzilla Roll, a larger format piece that brought contrasting textures with tempura crunch against fresh fish and creamy avocado. The Gyu Don bowl offered a departure from sushi, thin-sliced beef simmered in a sweet soy broth over rice that provided hearty comfort on a cold evening. The Ten Don, a tempura rice bowl, rounded out the donburi section with properly battered shrimp and vegetables that maintained their crispness even over rice. The space is compact and clean, and the lunch break between services keeps the kitchen focused during peak dinner hours.
