Fat Rosie's Taco & Margarita Bar
NapervilleFood Editor
Local team review
The frozen margarita flight — four mini glasses in rotating seasonal flavors — is the smartest thing on the menu, because it buys you time to figure out what to eat while having an unreasonable amount of fun. The fried avocado taco surprised everyone at our table: crispy battered avocado with chipotle crema and a crunchy cabbage slaw that added texture and brightness. The churro bites with dulce de leche dipping sauce are the kind of dessert you order for the table and pretend to share. On a warm Friday night with the windows open and the bar buzzing, this corner of downtown Naperville feels almost tropical.
About the Restaurant
Fat Rosie's occupies a prime downtown corner and leans into the energy that location demands. The margarita menu is extensive and unapologetically fun, frozen, on the rocks, spicy, tropical, and the street-style tacos provide the ideal drinking food. The al pastor is well-spiced, the fried avocado taco is a surprising standout, and the queso fundido arrives bubbling in a cast-iron skillet. It's not trying to be the most authentic Mexican in town, and that's fine. It's trying to be the most fun, and it succeeds.
Insider Tip
The rooftop patio is one of downtown's best warm-weather perches, get there before 6 PM on Saturdays or you're waiting.
